French authorities have shifted to World Cup security planning after violence in Paris following PSG’s second straight Champions League win. According to L'Équipe, a list of ‘sensitive’ national teams and fixtures has been drawn up, each with a different vigilance level.

The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July. The list covers, to varying degrees, France, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Türkiye and Senegal, who play the Bleus on 16 June at 21:00 French time. Iran is included for geopolitical reasons rather than supporter behaviour.

For France, measures will be scaled to their progress, typically from the semi-finals if they reach that stage, as in previous editions.

For other sides, notably Algeria, which sits at the top of the risk list, authorities plan to anticipate diaspora gatherings after any group-stage win. The main concern is the knockout rounds.

Focus will tighten during the final group matches, then from the round of 32, which begins on Sunday 28 June. Plans will also be set by kick-off times, with some games at 03:00 or 05:00 French time. It remains hard, for now, to gauge the risk around a 03:00 knockout, though it could rise if France go the distance, and even more if Algeria enjoy a strong run, while still below the levels seen around PSG’s two consecutive Champions League finals.
