Three-quarters of Premier League fans oppose VAR, a Football Supporters’ Association survey indicates.

ExpressAndStar.com reports that nearly 8,000 supporters took part, just over half attending more than 15 home games a season.

Overall, 75.71 per cent do not support VAR. More than 97 per cent said it does not make watching more enjoyable, and more than 90 per cent said matchgoing has not improved.

Fewer than three per cent believe decisions arrive in a reasonable time, and most see no speed gains despite efforts. More than 90 per cent feel the technology has stripped the spontaneity from goal celebrations.

A slim majority back its use to review red cards, but oppose checks on offsides, fouls and handballs in the build-up to goals.

Goal-line technology is strongly favoured, backed by more than 93 per cent. More than 85 per cent fear further expansion, and more than 70 per cent oppose potential corner reviews as the Premier League prepares to canvass clubs for next season.

Most are against VAR for second yellow cards, though a limited challenge system drew slightly more support than opposition. More than 80 per cent now prefer games without VAR.

The findings mirror an FSA survey in 2021, and the organisation has shared them with the Premier League and PGMOL for discussion.
