On loan at Santos until the end of the year, Gabigol has hinted at a 2027 return to Cruzeiro, stressing his belief in the club’s long-term project. He downplayed any impact from his Copa do Brasil penalty miss against Corinthians.
"The penalty I missed against Corinthians will be remembered, but it is part of football. If I have to take one again, I will. I still think Cruzeiro is a project that will come good," he told Clear TV.
The striker is Santos’ top scorer this season with 17 goals, and remains under contract with Cruzeiro until December 2028.
He joined Cruzeiro as the headline signing for 2025, started regularly and chased the Mineiro golden boot, then lost his place to Kaio Jorge. He finished the year as the club’s second-top scorer with 13 goals, before requesting a move for greater playing time.
"I wanted something new when I left Flamengo, and I still think Cruzeiro will be a winning project. It has a great team, a great president, a great fanbase and a great city. I still think I made the right choice, I still have two years on my Cruzeiro contract, and I think it will work out in the end."
Cruzeiro loaned him to Santos while covering part of his wages. There was no loan fee, and the deal does not include a set-price purchase option.
