Gabriel Gudmundsson has been voted the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust’s Paul Madeley Player of the Year for 2026/27.

According to Leeds Live, the 27-year-old left-back has been one of Leeds’ most consistent performers since his £10m summer move from Lille, effective at both ends and noted for his resilience.

He responded to a stoppage-time own goal at Fulham in September, a 1-0 defeat, by delivering a man-of-the-match display against Wolves in the next game to secure the club’s first away win of the season.

His bond with supporters has grown, from apologising at full-time that day to shaking hands with fans following a controversial red card at Crystal Palace.

Mid-season he shifted from orthodox left-back to wing-back. He is yet to register a Premier League goal or assist, though his forward runs regularly help Leeds get in behind.

Defensively, his positioning and judgement on when to tackle have stood out. Staff have praised his application and attitude, including around club foundation commitments.

The Trust’s ballot gave Gudmundsson 40% of the vote, with captain Ethan Ampadu on 34% in second. Dominic Calvert-Lewin finished third, while Anton Stach and Joe Rodon also polled well.

He is set to play for his country at the World Cup this summer. The Trust plans to present the award before Sunday’s final home match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
