Victor Osimhen will undergo surgery on a broken forearm, leaving Galatasaray Istanbul without their leading striker for several weeks. The injury was sustained in the 4-0 Champions League round of 16 second leg defeat to Liverpool.
The 27-year-old said in a Twitch livestream on "Carterefe" that he will be out for five to six weeks.
That timeframe rules him out of the Istanbul derby with Fenerbahçe on 26 April. The rivals are separated by four points in the Süper Lig, and leaders Gala have a game in hand.
Osimhen took the knock early in the Liverpool match but played on until half-time. He was then replaced by Noa Lang, who suffered a deep cut to his thumb and underwent surgery while still in England.
His absence is a major blow, with 19 goals in 29 competitive matches. He is contracted until 2029, having joined on a permanent deal from SSC Napoli in summer 2025 for €75 million.
Manager Okan Buruk can turn to Mauro Icardi, with 17 goal contributions, or Baris Yilmaz, with 24, to lead the line.
Osimhen, who always wears a mask due to a serious facial injury, remains upbeat.
"I’m no stranger to situations like this. I’ve been through worse: I still have about 18 screws in my face from the previous operation, and I can’t even eat normally on the right side. This injury is just a minor thing compared to what I’ve been through."
