Gian Piero Gasperini has shot down reports Roma could sell Gianluca Mancini to rivals Inter. ‘I already told him, he’s not going anywhere, he wants to stay too.’

There had been days of rumours from Sky Sport Italia and others that Inter had set their sights on Mancini to bring more experience to their back three next season.

The 30-year-old is only under contract until June 2027, so unless a new deal is drawn up, they risk losing him as a free agent next summer.

However, Gasperini spoke at an event in Bergamo and assured he would put a barricade up to block any such transfer.

“I already told him, he’s not going anywhere,” said the coach.

“Inter can do what they want, but the fact is the player wants to stay too.”

Nonetheless, some sacrifices will have to be made, and Gasperini is well aware that Roma have to make sales by June 30 to balance the books.

“What everyone wants is to continue together. I would gladly keep all my players, but there are some requirements of financial balance, so we’ll need to do well to hang on to the best players.”

They should include Paulo Dybala, whose contract expires on June 30, but who seems eager to put pen to paper on an extension with a big pay cut.

Roma have been heavily linked with new signings including Olympique Marseille winger Mason Greenwood.

“I don’t want to talk about players who are not in my squad,” replied Gasperini when asked about the England international.

“Our ambition is to build a team that is better than the current one, but the fundamental aspect is building on the group that fought to the final whistle of this season.

“There is a solid core we need to keep hold of, introducing new players who can raise the bar.”
