Young Chelsea winger Geovany Quenda has provided a positive injury update after being left out of the club’s squad for the pre-season tour in Australia and Asia.

Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha are among the players missing from Chelsea's squad for their pre-season tour.

While most of these absentees are due to their involvement in the 2026 World Cup, the pair have been left out due to injury problems.

As reported, Quenda is nursing an unspecified minor injury, whereas Emegha sustained a muscle injury during Chelsea’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Bromley earlier this week.

Chelsea decided to play it cautiously and left both in London, although there is a chance that they may join the squad during the later part of the tour in Asia if they can recover in time.

For Quenda, this may happen sooner rather than later.

The 19-year-old posted an update on Instagram, where he is seen training on an exercise bike, which hopefully suggests that he is close to a recovery.

Emegha, on the other hand, uploaded some photos from the previous training sessions, captioned “God’s plan.”

Chelsea ready for pre-season tour

Meanwhile, the Chelsea squad that travelled on Friday have landed safely in Australia ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium.

Several players had the opportunity for a nighttime stroll in Sydney. Some of them, including Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer, decided to take a few photos of the scenery and uploaded them on Instagram.

For this pre-season tour, Xabi Alonso has named most of the first-team players who did not take part in the World Cup, in addition to Mamadou Sarr, who decided to report back early despite representing Senegal in the tournament.

Alonso will also have the opportunity to work with at least two summer signings in Marco Palestra and Dastan Satpayev.

Several academy stars, including Reggie Walsh, Madhi Nicoll-Jazuli, and Landon Emenalo, also made the list.

Chelsea will play five games during the tour. The Western Sydney Wanderers game will be followed by more friendlies against Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, AC Milan, and Johor Darul Ta’zim in Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Malaysia, respectively.

The team will then travel back to London to host La Liga side Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge in another friendly on Saturday, August 15.

Alonso will make his Premier League debut as a Chelsea manager in the opening game against West London neighbours Fulham at Craven Cottage on August 24.
