Gerson and father targeted by Flamengo fans at Maracanã | OneFootball

Gerson and his father were abused by Flamengo supporters at the Maracanã on Wednesday night as the Cruzeiro midfielder faced his former club.

According to Globo.com, Gerson was labelled a mercenary and booed as he touched the ball.

Marcão watched part of the match in the Maracanã Mais section, usually reserved for players’ families, but was surrounded by fans unhappy with the midfielder.

At half-time he moved to the stands and was again targeted. Beer cups were thrown in his direction, and stadium security had to escort him away.

It was Gerson’s first meeting with Flamengo since leaving for Zenit in Russia last year. He has been with Cruzeiro since the start of the year.

His Flamengo exit followed protracted talks over a new deal, during which his release clause was cut from 200 to 25 million euros.

Across two spells with Flamengo he played 253 matches, with 155 wins, 50 draws and 48 defeats, scoring 19 goals.
