Crystal Palace won their third major trophy in Oliver Glasner’s last game as the coach of the club from south London. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the only goal of the Europa Conference League final in Leipzig against Rayo Vallecano.
A Premier League team beat their LaLiga opposition in the final of the competition for the second season running. Arsenal will have a chance to complete the treble for English clubs when they face PSG in the Champions League final on Saturday. Aston Villa were triumphant in last week's Europa League final against SC Freiburg.
Mateta scored 24 Bundesliga goals for Mainz in 67 appearances before his move to Crystal Palace in 2021. The striker who made France's World Cup squad nearly left Palace in January, but he stayed in the club after failing to pass the medical tests at AC Milan.
Meanwhile, Glasner won his second European trophy in his final game with Crystal Palace. The Austrian, who also previously coached at Wolfsburg, returned Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory in 2022. On his way to the podium to receive the medal, Glasner repeated the famous slide from four years ago. After winning Palace's first three trophies, Bundesliga could be Glasner’s destination once again.
Palace's squad has four more players with Bundesliga past – Chris Richards (Bayern & Hoffenheim), Maxence Lacroix (Wolfsburg), Daichi Kamada (Frankfurt) and Borna Sosa (Stuttgart). RB Leipzig's RedBull Arena hosted the final as there were stories of clashes between the two sets of fans ahead of the kickoff. The game was also interrupted briefly in the first-half due to a medical emergency in Vallecano's section.
