Leeds United’s first pre-season friendly ended in a 3-2 defeat to Championship side Wrexham in America.

Wrexham led after 31 seconds as Kieffer Moore finished a rapid break. Joel Piroe then struck a post from the spot.

Piroe levelled with a tap in from a Sean Longstaff cross, before Bailey Cadamarteri restored Wrexham’s lead after Joe Rodon failed to win a tackle on halfway.

Leeds equalised again in the 45th minute through a neat Longstaff finish and that looked likely to settle it.

Late on, more poor defending cost Leeds, the ball was lost on halfway and Sam Smith charged into the box to beat Lucas Perri in the 86th minute at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Smyth rated Alex Cairns five, James Justin six, Joe Rodon four, Alfie Cresswell six, Jayden Lienou six and Dan James six. He noted Cairns was beaten three times in the first half, one effort hit the woodwork.
