Granit Xhaka has marked the first anniversary of his Sunderland move with a heartfelt message to supporters on social media.
According to Sunderland Echo, the Swiss midfielder arrived on 30 July last year and has become pivotal in a side that finished seventh in the Premier League, securing Europa League football.
Earlier this summer the 33-year-old was linked with a surprise exit, with newly appointed Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso identifying him as a key target at Stamford Bridge.
On Instagram he shared a collage of images, set to Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love. He reflected that time has flown, praised what has been built together, expressed gratitude for challenges and moments, and said he is ready for another season and wants to make it bigger.
In a recent press conference, head coach Regis Le Bris called the matter closed, making clear Xhaka loves Sunderland and intends to stay, while praising his captaincy and leadership.
