Grégory Lorenzi is expected to become OGC Nice’s next sporting director, replacing Florian Maurice, who has held the role for two seasons and is due to depart this summer. The Stade Brestois executive has been in talks with Nice for several weeks and is leaving the club, where he has held the same role since 2016.
According to Nice-Matin, the 42-year-old former defender, attracted by the prospect of joining the Aiglons and returning to his home region, agreed to come only if the club stay in Ligue 1. Discussions have moved forward in recent days.
Nice had made Lorenzi their priority to succeed Maurice. OM and Nottingham Forest also showed interest in the Corsican.
The club sit five points above the play-off place held by Auxerre, whom they face on matchday 33 on 10 May. Their top-flight status is not yet secure.
Nice could still reach the Europa League next season if they beat Lens in the Coupe de France final on 22 May.
