Groningen coach says he knows of no Benfica move for Stije Resink | OneFootball

Groningen coach Dick Lukkien says he is unaware of any negotiations with Benfica over 22-year-old midfielder Stije Resink. According to Glorioso 1904, he was asked about the links as the January window nears its close.

Resink started their last match against Fortuna Sittard but went off early with a left ankle issue.

Post-match, Lukkien said he is kept informed by technical director Mo Allach, who has told him there is no interest, and he would be speculating otherwise. He also underlined how important Resink is to Groningen.

The coach said he speaks regularly with Resink and accepts that any attention could affect a young player, though he feels the midfielder is handling it well. He believes the player will stay in the Netherlands.

On the injury, he described the incident as a tough moment, adding that the ankle twisted and the club will assess the situation. Resink has previously spoken about the Benfica talk.

This season Resink, valued at €7 million, has made 21 appearances for Groningen, 20 in the Eredivisie and one in the cup, across 1,857 minutes. He has four goals and five assists.
