The poker game surrounding Marc Guéhi remains open from FC Bayern’s point of view – and in Munich they are hoping that a decisive door will not close this month
According to information from Sky, the England international is still on FC Bayern’s list. The central defender’s situation is being monitored very closely at Säbener Straße and the club is banking on Guéhi not moving to Manchester City in January. From Munich’s point of view, this scenario would be crucial if they are to have a realistic chance of securing a transfer on a free transfer in the summer
The background to this is Guéhi’s contract situation at Crystal Palace. The Eagles‘ defender is entering the final year of his contract, which makes him highly interesting for numerous top clubs. Manchester City are currently considered the most dangerous rivals, as the Skyblues are under pressure to make a move in the short term due to several injuries in defence. However, if City do not get serious in the winter, a strategic window would open for Bayern
The Munich club have been looking at Guéhi for months, and the situation has changed since Oliver Glasner publicly admitted that economic considerations will at some point outweigh the benefits of an expiring contract. A sale in the winter is not out of the question, but a transfer on a free transfer in the summer remains highly interesting for interested parties
Guéhi still fits well into FC Bayern’s profile. Although Dayot Upamecano’s contract extension is nearing completion, the future of the central defence is not completely clear. Minjae Kim is still seen internally as a sales candidate, and those responsible are also thinking long-term. A player like Guéhi, who is already a captain in the Premier League despite his age and has leadership qualities, is highly valued in Munich

An immediate move in the winter is still considered rather unlikely. Instead, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are banking on Guéhi finishing the current season at Palace – and new opportunities arising in the summer. The prerequisite for this, however, is that Manchester City do not strike in January
This is precisely Bayern’s current hope: if Guéhi stays in London this month, the chance of a transfer remains alive. From Munich’s point of view, the Guehi poker is far from over.
