Gustavo Henrique sets Corinthians Libertadores scoring record for a defender | OneFootball

Gustavo Henrique wrote his name into Corinthians history on Wednesday, becoming the club’s highest-scoring centre-back in the Libertadores after netting a stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Independiente Santa Fe in Bogotá.

According to Meu Timao, the defender now has three Libertadores goals for Corinthians this campaign, moving clear of Felipe, Fábio Luciano and Nenê as the club’s leading scorer among defenders in the competition’s history.

The goal came in the 47th minute of the second half. From the right, Matheuzinho swung in a cross and Gustavo Henrique outjumped Mosquera to head into the left corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

He had previously scored in the 2-0 home win over Santa Fe at Neo Química Arena, and in the 2-0 victory against Peñarol of Uruguay at the same stadium.

That strike in Bogotá took his 2026 tally to four, making him Corinthians’ outright second top scorer, one behind Yuri Alberto. He has 14 direct goal involvements since arriving at Parque São Jorge.

The late draw kept Corinthians in the hunt in Group E. They could even secure early passage to the last 16 on Thursday if Peñarol do not beat Platense of Argentina.
