Chemsdine Talbi’s World Cup outing for Morocco sparked a playful on-air exchange, with Guy Mowbray nudging Alan Shearer into praising Sunderland during the Group C meeting with Brazil.
According to Sunderland Echo, the winger was introduced in the second half after an impressive first season on Wearside following the club’s Premier League return.
Talbi contributed to a memorable campaign under Régis Le Bris, with Sunderland finishing seventh and qualifying for Europe. He also etched his name into recent Wearside folklore by equalising at St James’ Park in the derby victory over Newcastle United.
On commentary, Mowbray highlighted Sunderland’s sizeable presence at the tournament, noting Talbi is one of 12 Black Cats involved, two more than Real Madrid’s contingent.
Shearer jokingly suggested Mowbray sounded like a Sunderland fan, to which Mowbray replied he was simply inviting the pundit’s North East knowledge to shine. Shearer acknowledged Sunderland had a great season, Mowbray quipped that the teeth were not even gritted, and Shearer agreed.
