Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was left altogether unimpressed by the attitude of a leading member of his squad, at a crucial point in the recently-completed campaign.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Marc-André ter Stegen as the player in question.
Ter Stegen’s name has of course positioned itself centre stage in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several weeks now.
This comes amid the widespread understanding that the German is being pushed towards the Camp Nou exit door, to make room for the incoming Joan García.
And this weekend, an insight into precisely why has been forthcoming online.
The info comes courtesy of Sport, and confirms that Hansi Flick was left frustated by Ter Stegen’s behaviour on more than one occasion late in the season.
One such instance came upon the 33-year-old refusing to travel for the 2nd leg of Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final tie with Inter Milan, after learning that he would not be favoured to Wojciech Szczęsny at San Siro.
Flick was also left frustrated by Ter Stegen’s decision to reiterate his readiness to return to starting duties during an interview in Germany, having previously made as much crystal clear in private.
It is in turn concluded that:
‘The Blaugrana club has meditated a lot on their decision, but the straw that broke the camel’s back with the German was his attitude at the end of the season, which Flick and the sporting management did not like at all.’
