Hansi Flick’s big dilemma ahead of Barcelona’s first Champions League fixture of the season

Barcelona’s 6-0 win over Valencia was the team’s most complete performance in a long time and could not have arrived at a better moment.

The Catalans were imperious on the night and back to their free-flowing football, something they will have to replicate midweek if they are to win away from home against Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League.

Hansi Flick will have a lot of positives to take away from the league win, but one position where he will now be in a dilemma over is the centre-forward position, given that both Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski are making strong cases for themselves.

A decision to make

As relayed in a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Flick has a massive decision to make for Barcelona’s upcoming clash against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

The big dilemma for the coach will be to decide if he favours Ferran Torres’ effectiveness in front of goal or Lewandowski’s experience on the night, and his decision may well decide the course of the game.

So far this season, the Spanish forward has started all four of Barcelona’s league games and has repaid the manager’s faith in him with two goals and an assist.

Needless to say, he appears to be Flick’s preferred man in the department.

Lewandowski, however, has now returned to his best after a minor niggle and made a statement in the team’s latest win over Valencia with a brace in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Eventually, both players will have minutes against the Premier League side, with the benched player bound to come on as a substitute at some point. What remains to be seen, however, is whose profile Flick prefers as a starter for the big night.
