Leeds United came within an inch of signing Harry Wilson on deadline day, and the Fulham and Wales attacker has now addressed how close it came.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wilson said a move to Elland Road felt close on several occasions during deadline day, but he ultimately stayed in West London.

Leeds had targeted an attacker after Facundo Buonanotte chose a loan to Chelsea from Brighton. The club were confident, and after the deadline managing director Robbie Evans said Wilson was keen on a move to Elland Road.

Any deal depended on Fulham landing three players on the day, Tyrique George, now a Leeds target, Kevin, a player Daniel Farke admitted he wanted, and Samuel Chukwueze. Fulham signed Kevin and Chukwueze, not George, so they kept Wilson.

Since then Wilson has impressed, with eight goal involvements in 16 Premier League appearances for Fulham.

He is out of contract next summer, and Fulham are keen to tie down the former Liverpool winger before non-English sides can approach him on January 1. Clubs will be interested in January.

A January move to Leeds seems almost impossible, despite his situation. Fulham would probably rather risk losing him for free than strengthen a direct rival in the fight to avoid the drop.
