FC Bayern’s traditional fan club visits are actually regarded as relaxed, obligatory appointments during winter preparations. Showing closeness, signing autographs, chatting a bit – they rarely make the headlines. Last weekend was a different story. Shooting star Lennart Karl, of all people, caused considerable unrest in the Bayern environment with an unusually honest answer
During a visit to the Burgsinn fan club, the 17-year-old was asked which club he saw as his dream club. Karl did not opt for the usual diplomatic answer, but openness instead. „FC Bayern is a very big club. It’s a dream to play there. But I definitely want to go to Real Madrid one day. That’s my dream club, but we’ll keep that between us,“ the attacking player was quoted as saying by Sky
A statement that would probably have passed as an honest moment from a teenager in a small circle, but had a completely different effect in public. The fact that Karl also emphasized how special FC Bayern is to him and how much fun he has in Munich was almost lost in the debate. The sentence about Real Madrid was the most memorable – and for many fans, it did not fit in with the record champions‘ self-image
Karl faced a strong headwind on social media in particular, with numerous Bayern supporters sharply criticizing the youngster on X. The accusation: a lack of identification, a lack of „mia san mia“ feeling, thinking about a move to another European giant too soon
The emotional nature of the reactions shows how sensitive the topic is at FC Bayern – especially when it comes to home-grown players or campus players who are being developed as figures of identification. Karl is considered one of the greatest talents of recent years, his sporting rise has been rapid. This makes the expectations regarding attitude and public image all the higher

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has spoken out to calm heated tempers, citing information from the player’s immediate environment and making it clear that Karl’s statements should not be understood as a rejection of FC Bayern
„The boy is only 17 years old. He has expressed his feelings very honestly, but he loves being at FC Bayern. He is very proud and wants to fight for FC Bayern,“ explained Romano. The dream of Real Madrid has existed for a long time, but has no influence on Karl’s current or medium-term plans. „He knows that his present and his future lie with FC Bayern. At some point in the distant future, his dream is to play for Real Madrid – nothing more.“
This classification puts the debate in a different light. Many top players dreamed of playing for certain clubs as youngsters, without this automatically resulting in an imminent departure. It is hardly surprising that emotional dreams exist, especially in the case of a 17-year-old
For FC Bayern, however, one thing remains clear: Karl is no longer an anonymous young player, but a public figure whose words carry weight. The club will have to accompany him on this path – both in sport and in the media
In sporting terms, there is no doubt about Karl’s role anyway: he feels comfortable in Munich, is given confidence and playing time and knows that his development path lies with FC Bayern. The Real dream is currently nothing more than a distant pipe dream – one that causes discussion, but does nothing to change his current bond with the record champions.
