Conmebol announced that from 2026 the primary tiebreaker in the Libertadores and the Sudamericana group stage will be head-to-head, with overall goal difference moving to second in the order.

Head-to-head rankings will be decided first by points won in the games between the teams, then by goal difference in those matches, then by goals scored. After that come overall goal difference, overall goals for, fewest red cards, fewest yellow cards, and finally a draw.

Corinthians learned their group opponents at Thursday night’s draw in Luque, Paraguay. They will face Penãrol of Uruguay, Independiente Santa Fe of Colombia and debutants Platense of Argentina.

Each group features four teams playing home and away, with the top two reaching the last 16 and the third-placed side moving into the Sudamericana play-offs. The group phase runs from seven April to 28 May.

The last 16 is scheduled for 11 to 20 August, with quarter-finals from eight to 17 September and semi-finals on 14 and 22 October. The final will be played on 28 November at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay.

This will be Corinthians’ 18th appearance in the Libertadores. Their sole title came in 2012.
