The 2025/26 Premiership season has been a memorable one with the Old Firm faltering early on before late surges look to halt Hearts' title bid. However, tomorrow evening we could see a new champion in Scotland for the first time since 1985.
Last weekend we saw the three contenders officially narrowed down to two. Celtic defeated rivals Rangers 3-1 at home in a game that included a genuinely extraordinary overhead kick from Daizen Maeda.
There was even more Celtic joy since Hearts were unable to defeat Motherwell with the game finishing 1-1 – a result that has cut the gap to one point with two games to play.
How the title can be decided on Wednesday
Although we have one point separating the leaders Hearts with Celtic right now, the title can be decided on Wednesday night.
The one thing Derek McInnes' team knows is that they need to win, regardless of anything else. It won't be easy of course, but at home to Falkirk they should find a way through – perhaps helped by newly crowned Player of the Season, Cláudio Braga.
Should the Jambos play their part then it depends on how Celtic have fared away to Motherwell. We already mentioned that Hearts couldn't win there at the weekend but if the Bhoys fall to a defeat and Hearts win then the title is all over and we'll have a non-Old Firm title winner for the first time in over four decades.
What if either side draws
Should Hearts only manage a point again and Celtic win then Martin O'Neill's side will go top and know that all they have to do on the final day of the season is avoid defeat when they host Hearts.
Meanwhile, if Celtic draw their game and Hearts win theirs then the gap will be three points and it's here that goal difference would come into play. In this scenario, Celtic would not only need to defeat the Edinburgh side, they'd need to do so while ensuring a necessary goal swing. As of right now, Hearts are on +32 and +29.
Of all the scenarios that could take place tomorrow the only one that decides the title is a Hearts win and a Celtic draw. Everything else will give us an incredible final day.
