Hebburn Town are targeting three Sunderland youngsters after their against-the-odds title triumph and promotion, Sunderland Echo understands.

The Hornets topped the Northern Premier League Premier Division with 79 points from 40 matches, winning 23, drawing 10 and losing seven, finishing two points ahead of Hednesford Town and seven clear of FC United of Manchester.

Cameron and Waters will leave Sunderland this summer when their contracts expire in June, making them available on free transfers. Both are of interest after spending time with Hebburn during the campaign.

Cameron began the season on loan at Hebburn before a stint with Boston United, with Isaac Allan replacing him on loan midway through. Waters enjoyed a productive spell, maintained a strong goals-to-minutes return and scored in Hebburn’s final game.

Hebburn are also keen on Allan, though he is contracted to Sunderland next season, so any move would have to be a loan. The club are likely to pursue only one of Cameron or Allan, given both are goalkeepers, as part of wider summer planning for the step up.

Manager Daniel Moore praised Allan’s crucial saves and the impact of Waters after the 2-1 win over Bamber Bridge in the penultimate fixture, before Hebburn completed the job and sealed promotion to National League North.

Hebburn are set to work with a modest budget and aim to build a young, energetic group, a profile that fits Waters, Cameron and Allan.
