It is clear enough to see that FC Barcelona is not done with the transfer market just yet this summer. The Catalan giants remain involved with various players and possible targets, but the finalisation of certain transfers is taking longer than expected.
Fortunately, it seems that La Blaugrana have now more or less managed to secure the arrival of another addition to the team. In fact, this particular arrival will be a familiar face who is now expected to terminate his current contract with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano through his iconic ‘Here we go’ catchphrase, Barça have secured the arrival of Portuguese fullback Joao Cancelo. The 32-year-old defender is set to terminate his current contract with Al-Hilal and then return to the Catalan club on a free transfer as he has already reached an agreement with the Saudi Arabian side as per Romano.
Having already spent multiple seasons with La Blaugrana on loan previously, Cancelo and Barça have a history together already. Furthermore, both parties seemed determined to reunite and it now seems that their reunion is extremely likely to happen after all.
The player, reportedly, now also has the authorisation to travel early next week and report for duty under Hansi Flick’s orders. In terms of the personal terms and conditions, those were already agreed between Cancelo and Barcelona back in June and he now seems set to be the team’s latest addition this summer.
However, it seems unlikely that Barça will be stopping here when it comes to bolstering their current squad this summer. With another bid already submitted for Manchester City star Rodri, the Catalan giants look determined to add the former Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Cup winner to their team. Unfortunately, that particular operation may still require a little more time to complete unlike the Cancelo transfer.
