Manchester United have reportedly been left empty-handed in their pursuit of Nathaniel Brown, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that everything is in place for him to join another top European club.
Left-back is one of the positions United are keen on strengthening this summer as they prepare to play in the Champions League next season and potentially mount a title challenge.
Tyrell Malacia’s exit was confirmed and the Dutchman is set to officially leave the club at the end of this month when his contract expires. Malacia’s departure leaves Luke Shaw as the only other natural senior left-back in United’s ranks.
Shaw did well to be fit last season, starting all 38 Premier League games for the first time in his career. However, his poor injury history suggests he cannot be relied upon to replicate this feat, especially during a campaign that will have greater physical demands due to more games.
United have the option of integrating Harry Amass into the first-team setup as competition and cover for Shaw, though the young full-back is believed to favour a loan move away.
There is therefore a genuine risk of Michael Carrick being left severely short in this position. This is where Brown came in. Brown enjoyed a stunning season with Eintracht Frankfurt. He contributed four goals and six assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances.
However, Bayern Munich also expressed an interest in Brown and stepped up their chase to land him ahead of United. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Brown was genuinely open to an Old Trafford switch after learning about the project and the role he would play in it.
United eventually opted against entering a bidding way for the 22-year-old, who is currently with the Germany national team at the World Cup.
If anyone harboured any hopes of a late hijack from United, then they will be bitterly disappointed after the update that Romano has just issued.
According to Romano, everything is in place for Brown to join Bayern.
The Italian journalist wrote on X, “Nathaniel Brown to FC Bayern, here we go! Deal in place with Eintracht Frankfurt for the left back.”
“Never in doubt as Brown agreed terms weeks ago and only wanted Bayern move.”
“Fee will be €55m agreed with Markus Krösche.”
Brown will sign a five-year deal with Bayern.
United will now shift their attention to other targets, including Newcastle’s Lewis Hall. Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson has also been mentioned to be on the Red Devils’ radar.
