Match set for March camp in Doha

Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard confirmed a friendly against Egypt in March as part of the team’s preparation for World Cup 2026.
Head coach Herve Renard revealed why Saudi Arabia decided to play a friendly match against Egypt during the international break in March 2026.
Speaking through the national team’s official account on social media, Renard confirmed that the Saudi squad will hold a training camp in Doha, Qatar where they will face Egypt & Serbia as part of their preparation for FIFA World Cup 2026 which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Renard explained that the choice of opponents was deliberate. Egypt was selected to represent the African style of play while Serbia will provide a European challenge helping Saudi Arabia prepare for different types of opponents before the tournament.
The French coach said the upcoming camp will also help him assess wider group of players before the World Cup.
Renard explained that he wants to observe as many players as possible and give chances to new names. According to him, the squad includes a second group of players he wants to watch closely during the camp.
The coaching staff believes these matches will help the team build stronger depth and identify the best options for final World Cup squad.
The friendly match between Egypt & Saudi Arabia is scheduled for Thursday 26 March 26 2026 at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Doha.
The match will be part of the Qatar Football Festival which will run from 26 March to 31 March.
However reports suggest the kick-off time or venue could still change due to security concerns although no final decision has been announced yet.
