“Historic match”: BVB women look forward to Pokal game against Bayern Munich | OneFootball

There was great excitement and celebration on Tuesday evening in the Stadion Rote Erde: after their play-off victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the BVB women’s team followed the draw for the first round of the DFB Pokal up close - from directly behind the television cameras. At the edge of the pitch, in front of the excited fans of the BVB women’s team, Turid Knaak drew the pairings for the next round of the Pokal. The surprise was huge when the BVB women’s next opponents were revealed: FC Bayern Munich.

The FC Bayern women are the reigning double-champions, posing the biggest challenge the BVB women have faced so far in their history. The Bayern Munich women can look back on what was their most successful season to date: for the third time in a row, they secured the title in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, and crowned their season by winning the DFB Pokal - the team’s first ever double. In the UEFA Champions League, they lost in the quarter-final to record winners Olympique Lyon.
