A few days ago, Paris Saint-Germain announced the contract extension of Achraf Hakimi, tying the Morocco international down until 2029.

Hakimi, after progressing through Real Madrid’s youth academy and having stints at Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, signed with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021, swiftly becoming a crucial figure in the team.

Following his contract extension becoming official, Hakimi stated to the club’s official website:

“I’m very happy to be continuing my stay with Paris Saint-Germain. I’d like to thank the club’s president, sporting director and coach, who have all made this possible.

“This club and its fans really do have something special; here, I have an ideal environment in which to work and to blossom on the pitch. It’s an honour to represent this great club, and I can’t wait to keep contributing to its history.”

Nonetheless, over the last few months, rumors of his past with Real Madrid surfaced. Considering he’s in the prime of his career, Hakimi was seen as the long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.

However, the player had other plans. Mundo Deportivo reports that after Carvajal’s injury last year, Real Madrid reached out to Hakimi, offering him a starting role for the rest of the season and beyond.

Despite the contact made by his boyhood club, the Moroccan quickly turned them down, making it clear that he was focused on extending his contract with PSG.

As a result, Real Madrid will attempt to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold, who could be a free agent in the summer should he not extend his contract with Liverpool.
