Julian Nagelsmann has officially named his World Cup squad and now Thomas Müller has also commented on the national coach’s selection – highlighting two players in particular
Germany’s squad for the World Cup was announced on Thursday. 26 players have been named for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico – including several FC Bayern players
Thomas Müller has now commented publicly on the DFB squad for the first time and the 2014 world champion, who is currently in Vancouver, is generally positive about the national coach’s selection
In a video on his Instagram channel, the 36-year-old explained: „I think the squad looks pretty good. There were no surprises, because as is the case with nominations, everything leaks out beforehand anyway.“
Müller was alluding to the return of Manuel Neuer, among other things. The Bayern captain had originally ended his DFB career after Euro 2024 and is now surprisingly celebrating his World Cup comeback
Müller highlighted two personalities in particular in his statement
„From my point of view, there are no big surprises. I’m delighted that Maxi Beier has made the leap, because I just had the feeling that he’s performed really well in recent weeks.“
According to Müller, it’s not just about goals or statistics: „It’s not always about whether I score a goal or not, but the intensity and whether I always play at my best.“
The former Bayern player was also positive about Nadiem Amiri’s nomination: „I think it’s good that he’s included. Maybe not everyone had him on their list. Of course, he’s been in and out of the squad during the training sessions. But as the national coach said, you can always throw him in. He’s always on. I see it the same way.“
Nagelsmann himself had previously explained that he particularly appreciated Amiri’s „emotionality and power“
Müller, on the other hand, deliberately did not address individual non-nominations. For the long-serving international, the focus is primarily on team unity: „You can always discuss individual personnel. In the end, the squad wins
He continued: „The boys have to fit together, and I see good conditions there. Accordingly, all the best!“

A total of seven Bayern professionals are in the German World Cup squad: Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Leon Goretzka, Jamal Musiala and Bayern youngster Lennart Karl.
