All eyes are on Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres as Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday for their season opener.
Early in the summer, Sesko was viewed as Mikel Arteta’s preferred striker target. Meanwhile, as per multiple reports, Ruben Amorim wanted to reunite with Gyokeres.
However, the ex-Sporting CP talisman decided to move to London and Sesko turned down more lucrative opportunities to play for the Red Devils.
Ahead of the fixture, Amorim said Sesko is “ready to play” in his side’s curtain raiser against the North Londoners.
Sesko didn’t feature in any pre-season outing for United, as he only left RB Leipzig last week before being unveiled in front of the home crowd against Fiorentina. However, lack of action has not impacted the Slovenian phenom’s fitness.
According to CentreDevils’ Sully, the 22-year-old has been leaving staff and his teammates “shocked” with his fitness.
It is claimed Sesko has impressed figures at Carrington with his “incredible work ethic”.
The Slovenia international is reportedly “always the first one in and the last one to leave training, with staff surprised at how fast he is settling in.”
The report further states: “We can reveal that Sesko is always doing hours of extra recovery and gym work after the normal sessions with the group.”
It will be a huge statement of trust from Amorim in his new signing if Sesko is named in the starting lineup on Sunday.
Meanwhile, AC Milan might keep a close eye on Amorim’s selection against Arsenal.
The Serie A giants are trying to convince the Denmark international to return to Serie A on a season-long loan. However, Hojlund has publicly insisted that he intends to fight for his place under Amorim.
Amorim opted to start Mason Mount in favour of Hojlund against Firoentina. It would be best for the young forward to leave if the United head coach decides to overlook him yet again.
