Liverpool will renew acquaintances with familiar foes Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, when both sides lock horns for a place in the EFL Cup last eight.

The Reds suffered a relapse over the weekend, falling to a fourth Premier League defeat in a row after losing 3-2 to a dogged Brentford side.

Arne Slot’s side could do with a win to boost the morale in the dressing room, but Liverpool must do so against an opponent they haven’t beaten since October last year.

The Reds are winless against the Eagles in their last three meetings and are yet to avenge their FA Cup final defeat.

Whether they can do so on Wednesday remains to be seen, although they’ll be boosted by Palace’s recent form, with the Eagles winless in their last four games across all competitions (D1, L3).

How Liverpool could line up

Slot has struggled to find a winning formula over the past few weeks, and a must-win clash against a resurgent Aston Villa this weekend could force the Dutchman to ring the changes.

Injuries would also play a part in Slot’s decision-making for tonight’s crunch showdown, but the Dutchman may have to get creative with his line-up.

Third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman could earn a rare start in place of Giorgio Mamardashvilli.

In defence, there could be a shocking start for forgotten right back Calvin Ramsay, while Joe Gomez partners skipper Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the backline.

On the opposite flank, Andrew Robertson should return to the starting XI in place of Milos Kerkez.

Injury was added to insult for Liverpool against Brentford, as Curtis Jones was withdrawn with a knock midway through the second half.

Slot is hopeful that the England international avoided a serious issue, but the knock should see Alexis Mac Allister reclaim his spot in midfield.

The Argentine midfielder will likely anchor the midfield alongside Wataru Endo.

Dominik Szoboszlai should return to his more familiar attacking midfield role, flanked by 17-year-old talent Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa.

Hugo Ekitike should lead the line despite having an off day against Brentford.
