Recent form

Galatasaray remain on top form domestically and lead the Turkish Super Lig having lost just twice all season. In Europe, they squeezed into the Champions League knockout stages, before producing a stunning 7-5 aggregate win over Juventus to reach the round of 16.

Galatasaray have already hosted Liverpool once this season, back in September. The Turkish side ran out 1-0 victors that evening, courtesy of a controversial penalty.

Liverpool have continued to struggle for performances in the Premier League this season, and recently lost to bottom-placed Wolves. That defeat was avenged in the FA Cup on Friday and Arne Slot will hope his side can continue to build form on Tuesday. The Reds have won seven of their last nine in all competitions and come into the tie as favourites.

What’s been said?

“They played here, they know us better. It was a significant experience for them,” said Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk. “Looking at Liverpool’s position in the league, the Champions League is much more important for them. They will come here with a different mindset than in the group matches.

“There’s not one team you want to face in the last 16,” insisted Liverpool boss Arne Slot. “We’ve already lost to Galatasaray so that tells you a lot.

“Now, the good thing is we have experienced this once already. That helps. For us, it was new, the whistling is so loud when we have the ball, new for me and even my experienced players. We don’t just play the fans, we play 11 good players.”
