Germany put in the most impressive performance of the first round of fixtures as they thrashed Curacao 7-1.
Ivory Coast, meanwhile, got off to the perfect start by beating Ecuador 1-0.
Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann: “Their speed is one of their biggest strengths and that’s what I think they do best,” he told reporters, highlighting the French-born Ivorian winger Nicolas Pepe. “During the last game, he was everywhere.”
Ivory Coast head coach Emerse Fae: “We’re not coming to watch the Germans play. We’re coming to beat them, we’re coming to get that qualification for the second round.”
