How to watch Gotham FC and the Kansas City Current: Battle of the 2025 champions | OneFootball

It might be tiresome to constantly repeat things on this website, but sometimes it is necessary to get a point across and more.  So far in 2026, the biggest issue for NJ/NY Gotham FC is the lack of goals.  In four matches, the Bats have scored only once, which was in the season opener against Boston Legacy FC.  The team does have three clean sheets, but the lack of goals has led to a 1-1-2 record and five points overall.

As such, the pressure is on the reigning NWSL champions when they head on the road to face the Kansas City Current.  Funny enough, the Current is not having the best start to the season, either, for they are 1-3-0.  Many probably did not expect the 2025 NWSL Shield winners and the NWSL Champions to both struggle at the start of 2026, but alas, that is the case.

Obviously, Gotham FC will probably want to do everything that they can to find the back of the net again.  At the same time, Kansas City will want to win at home in front of their fans and seek revenge for their quarterfinal exit in the NWSL Playoffs, which the Bats caused.  Moreover, this was a match that was circled on the calendar.  Whether they will produce a game worth watching is unknown with these starts that are not ideal.

At the very least, while they did not score, the NJ/NY side looked better in the game against the Orlando Pride.  Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.  And sure, playing in Kansas City is never easy.  But what Gotham FC does not want to do is enter the international break with a 1-2-2 record.  That could put the team in a hole where they will have to try to climb out all season long.

Hopefully, Jaedyn Shaw will be available since she will be with the USWNT.  At this point, Gotham FC needs all of the help that they can get.  Plus, everyone who is capable of scoring needs to be their best in the attack.
