According to the Mirror (19.54), the 20-year-old’s future with the Terriers is in doubt following his impressive performances for the League One side.

The attacking midfielder joined Lee Grant’s side in the summer on a season-long loan, but that could be cut short in the new year amid interest from the second tier.

Castledine has proven a key figure for the Yorkshire outfit, contributing seven goals from 19 appearances in the league so far.

The youngster spent the second half of last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, scoring twice from 23 appearances as the club suffered relegation to League Two.

A number of Championship sides are keen on signing Castledine this January after his impressive form in League One.

It’s believed that a permanent move away from Chelsea could even be on the cards instead of another loan.

It remains unclear which teams are pushing to sign the 20-year-old, or what the fee could become if it is a permanent switch.

However, it will come as a blow to Grant’s side if they were to lose Castledine midway through the campaign, and could hurt their fight for promotion back to the second division.

Huddersfield will be keen to keep Castledine, but the decision will be out of their hands as the Premier League club will be able to recall their player.

The Terriers are currently seventh in the League One table, three points behind sixth place Bolton Wanderers and having played a game more than their rivals.

Next up for Grant’s side is a home clash against 24th place Port Vale at home on 26 December in a 3pm kick-off.

Losing Leo Castledine will be a big blow for Huddersfield

Castledine has been massively important for Huddersfield this season, and he is their top scorer in this first half of the campaign.

So losing him to a Championship side would be a massive blow to their promotion hopes, and replacing him will be quite tricky given he is only a loan player.

This is the peril of loaning someone from a Premier League side like Chelsea, as it’s always possible they’ll exceed expectations and earn a move up the football pyramid in January.

The lack of any possible fee from a sale means that Huddersfield will also be left without the kind of compensation that could help them go into the market to find a replacement.
