Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says he is pleased with the progress of Oswin Appollis since he signed for Soweto giants Orlando Pirates during the off-season.
The 24-year-old tricky winger has been one of the standout performers in the PSL this season and has emerged as an early contender for the prestigious Football of the Year award.
Appollis has chipped in with four goals and six assists in 22 appearances across all competitions for Pirates and he took his club form to the national team.
Now, the Belgian mentor is elated with the former Polokwane City talisman's development under Pirates boss Abdeslam Ouaddou, highlighting how his work rate has improved off-the ball.
“I think Oswin has made a very big progression, when I saw him playing in his former team, okay the quality was there but it was only in an offensive way, so I think Oswin became more mature now, he's playing in Pirates and I think his coach there helped him a lot,” said Broos.
"I see him working now, he works a lot, he's dangerous on the ball, he has good passing, he becomes very important for Orlando Pirates and he also becomes very important for Bafana Bafana in the past games.
"He scores goals, he's always dangerous when he is on the ball, he helps us a lot when we don't have the ball, so he progressed a lot and I'm very happy with him, even when he's small but he has the energy of someone who is two times taller than him, so I'm very happy with him really.
Appollis is expected to play an important role for Bafana in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Broos' men are in Group B with Zimbabwe, Angola and Egypt.
