Hugo joins elite Corinthians goalkeeping list with five straight Brazil call-ups | OneFootball

Hugo Souza has been called up by Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil's March internationals, placing the Corinthians goalkeeper in an elite club list with five consecutive national-team selections.

According to Meu Timao, he was not in Monday's initial announcement, his first omission since May 2025, before being drafted in to replace injured Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker.

Since Ancelotti took charge, Hugo has appeared in every squad. In November he was named for the final 2025 call-up but withdrew with a muscle injury.

This sequence equals club greats Cabeção between 1953 and 1954, Ado in 1970/71, Emerson Leão in 1983 and Dida in 1999/2000. Gylmar dos Santos Neves still holds the record, earning consecutive call-ups in three separate spells from 1955 to 1959, and was a key figure for Brazil's 1958 winners in Sweden.

Despite regular inclusion, Hugo has started only once, a 3-2 defeat to Japan in October.

This is the final squad before May's World Cup list, due shortly before the delegation flies to the United States in pursuit of a sixth title. Corinthians also have André Carrillo with Peru and Memphis Depay with the Netherlands, before facing Flamengo on Sunday at 20:30 at Neo Química Arena in round eight.
