Hugo Rincón scored his first top flight goal against Athletic, the club that owns his rights, with Girona able to pick him because his loan carries no so called fear clause.
According to El Correo, Athletic did not include the clause in the deal with Girona, so he could face them, as he did earlier at San Mamés. The regulations do not permit outright bans, instead clubs stipulate hefty penalties that often dissuade selection.
His goal arrived in minute 4 after a rapid break. Viktor Tsygankov fed Rincón’s run into the area and the right back finished with a low cross shot that caught the defence and Unai Simón out. He chose not to celebrate, a show of respect.
A similar situation applies to goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala on loan at Valencia, who was his team’s best performer at Mestalla in a match Athletic lost. By contrast, the club did apply such a clause to Unai Vencedor’s move to Levante on the final day of the window.
Rincón, who turned 23 in January, had two assists before this strike. Girona have been impressed and would look favourably on extending his loan.
The Valtierra, Navarra, native will return to Bilbao at the end of the season strengthened by his campaign and ready to compete for a place. He will vie with Areso, Gorosabel and Lekue, if the latter renews.
Before kick-off he greeted former reserve-team colleagues Jauregizar, Izeta and Robert Navarro warmly on the pitch.
