Hugo Souza faces a decisive day for his Brazil hopes as Carlo Ancelotti names the 26 for the 2026 World Cup at 17:00 at the Museu do Amanhã in Rio. The Corinthians goalkeeper is on the 55-man provisional list.
According to ge.globo, the provisional goalkeeper pool is Alisson, Bento, Ederson, Hugo Souza, Jhon and Weverton. The expectation is Brazil take three keepers, with Alisson and Ederson near certainties and Hugo competing with Bento for the third slot.
Since Ancelotti took charge, Hugo has been in all five squads, and in March he made it only after Alisson was cut. He has started once, a 3-2 defeat to Japan on 14 October. In November 2025 he was withdrawn with a left thigh muscle injury.
Even if he misses out on Monday, FIFA rules allow a goalkeeper from the provisional list to be drafted in during the tournament in cases of serious injury or illness.
Alisson is nearing recovery from a right hamstring problem and has not played since 18 March, when Liverpool beat Galatasaray 4-0. There remains an expectation he will be called.
Before the finals, Brazil face Panama on 31 May and Egypt on 6 June. In Group C they play Morocco on 13 June, Haiti on 19 June and Scotland on 24 June. Brazil’s calendar will pause for 50 days, so Hugo would not miss official Corinthians matches, though he could be a doubt for the 12 July friendly against FC Cascavel.
