Hugo Souza has marked two years since his Corinthians debut, reflecting on his journey and setting his sights on more success with the club.
The player said in a post that he feels at home at Corinthians, thanked God, family, friends and supporters, and wants to keep making history together.
He made his first appearance on 16 July 2024, a 2-1 win over Criciúma at Neo Química Arena. A branded video marking the date highlighted his penalty prowess, and he has the club’s third-most with 14, including stops against Raphael Veiga in the 2025 Paulistão final and Cruzeiro in the 2025 Copa do Brasil semi-finals.
Souza joined on loan from Flamengo until the end of 2024, replacing Carlos Miguel after his move to English football and following a season at Chaves. Corinthians exercised their option in October, completing an $800,000 deal in November for 50% of his rights with backing from main sponsor Esportes da Sorte.
Since signing permanently he has played 124 matches, conceding 112 goals, an average of 0.91 per game. The run includes 58 wins, 35 draws, 30 defeats and 52 clean sheets, plus the 2025 Paulistão, 2025 Copa do Brasil and 2026 Supercopa do Brasil.
His form brought him close to a Brazil World Cup call-up, but he was overlooked in favour of Grêmio’s Weverton despite involvement during Carlo Ancelotti’s cycle. Souza will start on Thursday against Remo at 19:30 at Neo Química Arena in the 19th round of the Brasileirão.
