Hull City and Millwall remain level heading into Monday’s second leg after a tense and hard-fought 0-0 draw at the MKM Stadium in their Championship play-off semi-final opener.
Clear-cut chances were few and far between in a physical contest, although both sides had moments where they threatened to break the deadlock. Lewie Coyle went closest for Hull early in the second half, firing narrowly over from distance, while Camiel Neghli almost caught out the hosts with a low strike that drifted inches wide of the post.
Hull looked livelier after the introductions of Yu Hirakawa and Kyle Joseph, with Hirakawa immediately delivering a dangerous cross that Oli McBurnie could not quite turn goalwards at the near post.
Millwall continued to pose a threat on the counter, forcing Ivor Pandur into a smart save from Femi Azeez before Neghli wasted another promising opening.
The visitors thought they had snatched a late winner when Ryan Leonard bundled the ball home, but the effort was ruled out after Tristan Crama was penalised for pulling Charlie Hughes’ shirt in the build-up.
Everything is now set up for a decisive second leg at The Den.
