Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva played his final game for the club yesterday as he is set to leave the club this summer.
The Portugal international spent nine years at the Etihad, claiming 20 major honours. However, he will now depart at the same time as manager Pep Guardiola.
Silva received a guard of honour from both sets of players as he was substituted off in his final appearance. It was a gesture that brought both Silva and Guardiola to tears.
Reflecting on an emotional farewell, Silva told Sky Sports: “I didn’t sleep that well last night. I wasn’t really in very good condition to play, I started crying a lot in the dressing room, which for a game isn’t very good.
“We couldn’t play our best game, but today was a celebration. I’m really happy for all the guys that came for Ederson, for Gundo, for John, for me, and for Pep.
“I’m just really proud that I was a part of this fantastic generation. This group of people that are just a family for me.”
Silva continued: “The love that we got from these guys, me personally I doubt, I don’t think I will ever get it again.
“What we were part of was something truly special. This will forever be my family, my second home and I’m just really grateful that I was a part of it.”
