France international Ibrahima Konaté (27) is set to leave Liverpool FC this summer as a free agent upon the expiry of his five-year contract, according to Sky Sports. The former RB Leipzig centre-back was locked in contract talks with the Reds for more than a year, but no agreement has eventually been reached over the player’s contract renewal. Konaté said last month that there was a “big chance“ that he would extend his stay on Merseyside, but the chance seems to have passed.
Sky Sports understands that Konaté is yet to decide on his next move. Given his skillset, experience and status as a free agent, the France international will surely attract plenty of interest in the coming weeks. Konaté will leave Liverpool after featuring 183 times with the Reds. He has won one Premier League, in 2025, one FA Cup, in 2022, and two Carabao Cups, in 2022 and 2024.
Konaté will report to Clairefontaine on Friday for France’s training camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
