Inaki Williams announces retirement from international football | OneFootball

Inaki Williams has retired from international football after a four-year spell with Ghana. The 32-year-old forward departs having helped the Black Stars return to the World Cup knockout phase for the first time since 2010.

He won his final cap in July, a 1-0 World Cup defeat to Colombia that ended Ghana’s run in the round of 32. Williams said in a post that representing Ghana had meant a great deal to him.

He reflected that the time felt right to end his journey, leaving happy, proud and at peace after giving everything. He added that Ghana had given him more than football by reconnecting him with his roots, and he thanked supporters while pledging to keep backing the team.

Born in Bilbao to Ghanaian parents, Williams initially played once for Spain in a friendly against Bosnia six years before switching allegiance. He made the change to represent Ghana in 2022.

The attacker finished with 28 caps and two goals for the Black Stars. With his international career concluded, the Athletic Club captain will focus fully on his commitments in Spain.
