Manchester United could revive their long-standing interest in Jarrad Branthwaite as early as January.
The Old Trafford faithful will be well aware that Branthwaite has been a name on INEOS’ shortlist for a few years now.
Back in the summer of 2024, United tested Everton’s resolve with an offer of £35 million for the centre-half. The proposal was swiftly rejected, which prompted the board to return with an improved bid worth £45m plus £5m in add-ons, although this, too, was rebuffed.
United subsequently sanctioned deals for two alternatives in the form of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, hence why they opted against returning for Branthwaite this year.
Yet, a mixed start to the campaign may have encouraged INEOS to acquire reinforcements mid-season.

Ruben Amorim, who’s navigating his first full campaign in the dugout, has recorded two wins, a draw and three losses in 2025/2026 thus far; one defeat came in the second round of the Carabao Cup to League Two opponents Grimsby Town.
It remains to be seen where Branthwaite would fit in, given the coach isn’t short of options at centre-half; De Ligt and Yoro have become mainstays as of late, whilst Harry Maguire remains a dependable option for Amorim to call upon and Lisandro Martinez is nearing his return to action.
Still, CaughtOffside claims (via the Daily Briefing) the 23-year-old Toffees ace is ‘unsettled’ in L3 and ‘has the desire’ to embark on a new venture where he may be more likely to add some silverware to his honours list.
Liverpool are also among his admirers and may be more in need of his services than United, with the centre of Arne Slot’s defence proving to be something of an Achilles heel early on this term.
