After some bleak weeks, the London is Blue podcast finally had a big statement win to get excited about today.
They loved what they had seen from a few players, in particular Reece James, who played 3 different positions against Liverpool and really showed off his skillset and incredible talent in adapting to each of them in turn.

“Reece James hit a worm burner for like 60 yards out to Jamie Gittens in the second half where I was just like… that’s one of the very best passes I’ve ever seen a player hit,” presenter Nick Verlaney said, introducing us to an excellent new American expression in the process.
“He’s absolutely insane, but I was also just really impressed with the movement and with the way the players were making space for each other. We haven’t seen that level [of play] for a while.”

We totally agree. Of course we enjoy the individual moments like the Moises Caicedo goal or James’ pass here. But the most impressive part of the game without doubt was the collective spirit, both in attack and defence.
So what changed compared to recent games where this was in very short supply? In reality a lot of it will simply be the opposition. We look so much better against teams who attack us and leave big spaces behind them. When we can play direct, we excel.
When we’re given the ball and have to break a team down, we struggle more, especially when we’re missing key attackers. That’s what this team needs to go to the next level.
