Inter Continue to Have Some Problems in Crunch Matches

After an impressive streak of results, Inter fell against Napoli last Saturday. Even though the Nerazzurri routinely rack up wins in easier fixtures, it’s not the first time they fail to measure up with the other contenders, Calciomercato points out.
In the past two seasons, they have prevailed just twice in the clashes with the Partenopei, Milan, Roma, and Juventus. They defeated the Giallorossi one-nil in both instances. They registered four draws and four losses in ten big games.
The record doesn’t improve much by adding Fiorentina, Lazio, and Atalanta to the list of challenging opponents. In such a tally, Inter logged six victories, but they shared the spoils five times and were topped as many.
The Nerazzurri defense, which has been rock-solid in other tilts, has faltered under pressure, giving up four goals versus Juventus and three to Napoli, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. They rank 13th in Serie A for goals conceded, although their frontline has made up for it, leading the league in scoring.
Their early numbers historically don’t bode well for their Scudetto aspirations: only the Old Lady in 2015/2016 has triumphed after starting as slowly, or worse, than they have this year.
While it’s true that domestic championships are usually won by making hay against the minnows, it wouldn’t hurt to beat the rivals, especially when they are wounded, like in their two most recent crunch matches, or you risk looking paper tiger-y. No team has been perfect so far, and they have less severe issues than other powerhouses. Even though three losses in eight rounds is a lot, they are just three points away from the top of the table, which is all that matters.
