Franck Kessie and his potential return to Serie A is gathering momentum, and Inter Milan and their sporting director Piero Ausilio are among those keeping a close eye on the situation.
However, his current salary of €14 million per season represents a major obstacle.
Any Italian club pursuing him would need Kessie to drop his wages significantly, to around €5 million plus bonuses per year on a three-year deal.
Inter are not out of the picture.
Sporting director Piero Ausilio has long admired Kessie and held an exploratory meeting with his agent Atangana in February.
It was described as an informal conversation, a way of staying informed rather than a concrete approach.
Roma are also in contention, particularly if they sell Manu Koné in the summer.
Furthermore, Kessie spent three years in Italy with Milan between 2019 and 2023.
Meanwhile, the futures of both Frattesi and Mkhitaryan at Inter remain unclear, adding further uncertainty to a midfield that could look very different next season.
If one, or both, of those players leaves – it will open a door for another reinforcement or two.
