Across 52 matches in all competitions last season, Sommer registered 22 clean sheets and delivered several season-defining performances.

Among them was his MVP display in the Champions League semifinal against Barcelona at San Siro, a match that confirmed his standing as one of Europe’s elite.

His nomination follows the recognition he gained earlier in the year by finishing third in the Yashin Trophy, awarded at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Now, FIFA has placed him in a shortlist that includes names such as Alisson, Courtois, Donnarumma and Neuer.

For Inter, the nomination is further vindication of the club’s decision to keep faith in Sommer.
