Ipswich Town have been linked with signing Norwegian international winger Sindre Walle Egeli.

After losing Omari Hutchinson to Nottingham Forest for £37.5 million, Ipswich have some money to use to go about adding more attacking threat to Kieran McKenna's options.

They are said to have made an offer for Egeli, one of their left-wing targets, at a price of £17.3 million, according to Danish outlet Tipsbladet.

The 19-year-old registered 14 combined goals and assists in the Danish Superliga last season for FC Nordsjælland, and was handed his national team debut last September.

Ipswich's £17.3 million gamble on Sindre Walle Egeli could be worth it

Some have considered the eight-figure fee a bit much to pay for the teenager, but Football League World's Ipswich fan pundit, Adam Wilkin, can see why the Tractor Boys are willing to take a risk on the Norwegian winger.

He said: "I don't know much about Egeli to be honest. The link popped up pretty much as soon as Omari was sold.

"From what I can tell you he's a bit of a different sort of player being six-foot-tall. He is left-footed and plays out on the right, so similar in that aspect.

"The goal contributions look fairly impressive, despite the level of the league, and to be an international footballer, at any level, particularly in what's probably a fairly strong Norway side at the moment, shows that there's definitely potential there.

"The other positive is at 19 years old, he doesn't take up a squad place, and our squad is very bloated at the moment, so he's got that going for him.

"I think with the transfer money incoming, £17.3 million represents a large outlay, but one that, given his form and his goals in Norway, and the fact that he's an international footballer, and hopefully can get more Norway appearances, and is still only 19, is one that is fairly low risk, I think.

"I don't know if it is an overpayment for today's market, considering we spent £25 million on Omari Hutchinson when we got promoted to the Premier League and he wasn't a full England international. Liam Delap, [was] not a full England international. Obviously, there are levels with the international teams.

"He'll have been scouted thoroughly. So I think £17.3 million is a bit steep if that's outright. I feel like for a 19-year-old, you'd probably want to be doing that more in installments and based on more international appearances, or more Ipswich appearances, or promotion fees, or sell-on clauses and stuff like that.

"So it is a bit steep but not hugely, hugely expensive as a risk, I wouldn't say."

Ipswich should be patient with any Sindre Walle Egeli negotiations

Luckily for McKenna, even with the loss of Hutchinson, he still has two very strong Championship wingers to call upon in his time of need. Jaden Philogene and Jack Clarke started for the Tractor Boys in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Southampton, and were replaced with two decent options in Conor Chaplin and Chiedozie Ogbene.

Philogene has had his injury issues, so that may put a little extra pressure on Ipswich's recruitment team to find a new wide option. It's by no means the weakest part of their team, and so they shouldn't feel the need to rush any deals for the likes of Egeli.
